In my opinion it would be a good idea to have medicated food on hand though (it does expire though so you do need to be aware of the date)

That way if and when you have a sick fish you don't have to wait to start treatment.
Good idea, as part of the "pond emergency/first aid" kit. And good reminder about exp dates! Does it require refrigeration?

As with any dry fish food it is best to store in an airtight container and keep in a cool dark and dry place (good for up to six months) for longer storage I have heard of keeping medicated food in the freezer (for up to a year I believe) but I would check with the manufacturer before doing so. Not a good idea to put dry foods in the refrigerator as moisture can build in the container/package which then can cause bacterial growth.
