With all my ponds and the bog, the bees go to the water with the growth, algae, parrots feather anything they can land on to get the drink. If I am open feeding them sugar water I put a layer of hay on top, they will suck it down to the bottom with no drowning. The hay gives them something to hang on to.I pulled tons of mason bees from the water. Your rite on the drowning.
Add some lemongrass oil to it, or a bit of vinegar. Bees like stinky water, not clean fresh water. Water with algae in it. I would say add sugar but then you would have every wasp coming.Here it is set up, I View attachment 131942have t seen a bee use it yet.
