Addy - interesting technique... do you know if the peroxide is harmful to any of the fish, or if it would be safe for aquarium use? And what dosage do you use?

I've seen koi get red gills from usage of peroxide.
I think for a tank ,you may want to buy a store product imho

Beautiful fish- what a shame to lose it. I have a 2 year old white scaleless koi I am trying to save right now. It is bad when you lose fish you have gotten attached to.

My pond is around 16000 gallons, I used 14 liters, I only have goldies and shubunkins. never saw the peroxide affect them. With koi no idea, diggin if it does turn their gills red.

From what I had read when i started using it the dose was 1 liter per 1000 gallons. I poured it in my stream, the main thing mentioned was to have a lot of flow, aeration. Even the mosquito fish, frogs, bugs did not get affected by it.

No clue for aquariums.

So sorry about your fish. I cover my ponds with plastic every year,so i dont have to worry about the hole closing over with ice.And belive me when the wind blows our electric goes out.The last ice storm we were out of electric for 7 days. People ask ya why do you cover your ponds with plastic? well because your water never freezes, you do have to open your plastic up a little to let the gases out if you have koi.

Joshk87, I'm so sorry about your koi. It doesn't get cold for long where I am, but we did have to shut the pump off this winter due to a leak we couldn't find. We kept a small waterfall in the koi part of the pond on to keep the water moving and that seemed to do the trick.

so sorry josh and it is true that koi need tons of oxygen in the winter I keep an oxygen pump going in mine all winter because they have gotten so large they require more oxygen and I keep a pump going in the pond rigged up with the hose coming out of the pump into a pvc pipe with it plugged on the end and holes drilled in it to help force water through it and it helps put oxygen in the water .It throws tons of bubbles out and I do this all winter as a pond heater I heard depleats oxygen .I stand the pipe up in the water I guess it works to add more oxygen to the water as this winter is the worst ever here .It also helps to keep an opening in the ice

I have a submersible 4000 GPH pump in my pond. Essentially I leave it sitting on the bottom of the pond and shooting straight up. This causes quite a commotion in the water. So it keeps the pond from freezing and with water constantly in motion and boiling up their is good oxygen exchange. Even when it has dropped to 0 and below for a few days it keeps more then a big enough hold open in the pond and the gas exchange going.
