Could plants be wicking up water .I had a root from my striped grass that did that .My liner was only 2 years old and had replaced it after a neighbors dog had ripped my other liner with his toenails .This is my third liner and it better be the last one .I also had a animal chew through my electrical cord and 1of my air lines .No luck here :)

it will divert around most of them most times and roots can grow up over liner and pull water from the pond.Mine grew up and out and then under the edge of the liner and were pulling water out of the pond .Some stronger tree roots may damage the liner ,but does not happen often

Could plants be wicking up water
I have never seen plants wick a significant amount of water. The closest I had was when I had the old pre-formed pond, and one edge had dropped to where the water level was barely 1/4" below the edge of the form. Even then, I only lost about an inch of water per day.

For the amount of loss Damian is seeing, I would definitely be checking the pumps and hoses. If there is a waterfall involved, there could be some loss around that... or if there has been high wind, it could simply be the water getting blown off the waterfall.

waterfall very true with winds and a very slight crack can leak a lot .My roots from my plant were over 20 inches long and and at least a foot wide .Those grasses just like iris or yellow flag are very aggressive in warm temps .I now trim them every 2 weeks ,lesson learned the hard way .Elephant ears here can be the same way .If you find a crack in your tank just spray it with that leak stop it does work .

The roots of tree's will actively seek out water and when they find it will puncture liners to get too it Damian have you a bottom drain attached to your liner as leaks can occur there ,
Evaporation can cause a large amount of water to disapear as can a leak in filter hose hook ups etc so give all your jubilee grips another tweak .

I turned the pump off over night and water level never moved. I have now replaced the tubing going from my pump to the filter now running pump again to see what happens.
