my lilly pad plants have a thick root (twice the diameter of a banana, and a texture like a pineapple) that is pushed above the soil/rock in the huge submerged pot its growing in. and that part of the root looks black and damaged. am i supposed to keep that part of the root covered so its not above the soil-line? do i have to annually dump more stone onto those roots that push up so they dont get blackened? or is this normal?
