They are all pond spawn, I have not tried to cull or keep any specific colors or finnage. We are seeing some with fins longer than their bodies, will be neat to see them when they grow up.

Awesome addy! Still have a few years to retirement but hubby is within a couple months, would love to have something like that to monitor my pond. :) Need to start checking into that cause we plan to be out on our sailboat where it's warm in the winter :).

Wow, I would NEVER have guessed of those 2 fish, one would turn out to be that black and white beauty! He/she really stands out in the crowd. That's neat that you had his original pic when you first got it, to compare. Goes to show you really don't know what you are getting until they grow up! And, love the long fins you are developing in your pond, too.

I'll have to watch my shubbies that I bought last year or was it the year before, oh well anyways would be nice if mine would turn that neat black and white like yours addy as a couple of mine have those similar vague colors now. Wonder how long it takes them to change?

I picked up those two last fall, they were in the deck pond for a few months then moved into the house for the winter. This was its first full summer here. Going by the size when I picked 1.5 inches it must have been spawned beginning of the summer. So long and short story about a year. Here is what it looked like when I pulled from the tank and took them outside. They are in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket for size reference.

Addy if you ever thinking of giving away (aka sell) the black & white baby I'd be soooo interested :)

Went to Petsmart and tried to find one with only black/white... found one with just a red dot on its head but I didnt get it. Will go there more often :)

They did not look like much at all when I got the two, sort of specked creamy color with a dot. The with the lighter black dot is black and white, but muted in colors compared to the other.
I will try to get a picture of it in the pond

Very pretty indeed! I got two baby shubbies about mid season this year. They're both in there with the big boys! It's funny because they are about the size of the full grown adult rosey minnows, a bit bigger maybe lol. But anyway, they have that deep down muted coloring, I think they call them blue shubbies? Anyone heard of that? They are pretty

I have heard of blue shubbies, they appear to be "valuable" The picture is similar to my second petsmart fish with the paler dot between the eyes.

Shunkins are sometimes called calico goldfish, because they have nacreous scales, which is a mixture of transparent and metallic scales that have a somewhat pearly appearance. The overlapping patches of black, grey, blue, brown, purple, red, and white, including dark speckles, are seen throughout the shubunkin's body extending also to finnage as well. Shubunkins that have blue colors are considered more valuable.
