Well I've got to try something to get rid of them. I'm going to do a full pond drain and clean either this fall after the fir drops or first thing in the spring. I don't want to do the meat jar, that's just nasty. If nothing else works, I will look at goldfish. Or those mosquito fish, or the minnows. Something tiny that won't attract the multitude of herons and egrets in the neighborhood.
I feel like it's a big cosmic ploy to get me to have fish...

Not sure draining the pond will get rid of them T cuz they can attach to plants and just hang on till you refill the pond and what about the eggs that can be attached to anything. If you have leeches in Mississippi then you will prolly just get more anyways like I said on traveling bird legs. Maybe try the quilt batting thing to catch and toss them away? Not even sure that would help.

You could try using a pair of tights cuting one leg off then filling the one leg with bloody meat then hang it in the pond , the leeches will smell the blood and make a B-line to it and start to eat then all you do is lift the tights leg out and pick off the leeches and put them in a jar with a lid on it , keep repeating this from time to tme and eventually your going to get all the leeches out .
Take them to a swamp or a lake and release them into the wild where they should be

I applaud your humane treatment @Dave 54 of even the creatures we might feel are disgusting and have no purpose in life. If we dug deeper into their lifestyle we could perhaps figure some of the reasons they need to exist.

I have tiny leeches also. I noticed a few months ago when one of my koi died that the entire fish was covered with them. But I have never seen any on my live fish.
