the koi that were not in the frenzy,,were real busy cleaning up,,the eggs were in and around the rocks on the top edge of the pond,,,the little ones left will have to make it on there own..they do have a lot of cracks to get in..
I talked to another breeder who had 80,000 left over from last year and he told me that all he had to do to get them to spawn is do a water change. Of course they also have to be ready. Sounds like you might be able to control that in your upper pond.
His operation covered 10 Acres and had over 30 ponds. I spent about 2 hours with him and found out his family in Japan has a farm with over 250,000 in stock.
We have had 6 + incs of rain in the last 5 days ,,the koi in the upper pond are swelling up, i dont think it will be long,,,i will keep the water change in mind.
my goldies are now starting their spawn, i put 8 fish outside 5 this weekend, 3 yesterday. this morning i walked out with my coffee and saw what looked to be the equivalent of a gang rape ,3, 1 tancho, 1 comet, 1 regular goldie beating the crap out of another goldie bouncing her off rocks, chasing her relentlessly, the tancho looks like someone super glued his nose to her rearend. oh how romantic huh? LOL

sorry about the double post, dont know how that happened....any ways how long does the spawn go on? and if the transfer from pond to pond, is a basic water change is it going to continue when the other 2 dozen or so go outside? and is a string mop head a good spawning bed, and how do i use it, let it float, sink or what?
When i bought my mop heads last week they wanted to float ,,so i tied a brick to them and let them grow like a plant ,,,now in my upper pond they are water logged and sink,,so this morning i put them on a copper wire and hung them on the edge,,,my koi went at it all day
the goldies seem to have discarded the mop head, i watched fairly close for hours and they never made it in the midst of the strings. went near but swam past. theyve been quiet the last few hours. how long should i wait to search the pond for eggs? and could it be that the NEW ADDITION of the mop head had them hesitant?
D.D & D.C any advise would be great... last year i had so many oxgenators eggs and fry were everywhere.
