spank them .I can't use clay in my pond for plants .koi love clay and it is beneficial to them thats why they root in it .I now you crushed oyster shells to plant my lilies and some pea gravel with a topping of some large rocks .Oyster shells first and then pea gravel and then a few bigger rocks around the edges of the pot.I found lava rock works as a topping as long as you only put the bigger ones on top

I know the UV won't clear the clay but the fish digging has also kicked up the alge on the bottom and sides. the only reason for the 2nd uv is mainly for getting more air into the pond and the dirty water closer to the filter faster.

hmmm .I guess all I can say is use quilt batting to pick up the finer stuff as the uv won't do that .I have never had a uv and my water is ok .I find the more water you move around helps and fountain head will aerate .Uv is for algae not aeration and getting it faster to the filter not sure what that means ,lost me there .

yes i concur, quilt batting really works. for me i use a slightly thinner one, not sure if there are differences in thickness, but when i get bloom i use it and after a day i just throw it out and put in more if need be. i know some people reuse but i haven't yet, i probably should or could but felt it was more work than i wanted to do. and yes uv helps control algae not add aeration or making stuff get to filter faster
