They spawn all summer?

yep each fish can spawn 2-3 + times dependent on the water temp

umm... i do believe they can go up till late summer pondlover, but also you may not even see the tiny ones except by chance

Check the edges of the pond, if you have any of the carpet algae growing they tend to hang out in it.

Larkin when can you tell if they are butterfly? Last night we definitely counted 4. It's very exciting and very surprising. I've read how everyone is seeing their fish spawn and I can honestly say that I haven't noticed any behavior like what I've read. They must have been secret spawners. :razz:

Most koi are really obvious when spawning, but some will just check into a cheap motel and keep everything hush-hush!

Ok this may be a silly question but can butterfly koi and regular koi breed? I have four babies, two of them it looks like their tail fins are different than te others. What are somethings I can look for to determine if they are butterfly?

don't think koi pay much attention to whether same variety of mate when spawning, you may want to pair off ones with traits you want and hope for the best though..good luck
