You fish are beauties. So your fat little fantails stay out all winter also and they don't die?

That is really cool. I had always heard that the fantails were not as hardy and they can't keep up w/ getting the food before the other do. I may give them a try.

I don't use a heater either just use that stupid thing I made and another pump to keep water circulated .I was afraid the heater would deplete the oxygen . Was not sure about them just heard horror stories that I was not sure of

They where around 2 inches long when I got them now they are over 4 inches long and seem healthy to me and they like you to put your hand in the water so they can swim into your hand and be cuddled

Very good and glad to hear they are doing well. I'll check out the pet stores to see what I can find this summer.

well in a way mogsie your right however as long as you bring the fish to that temp SLOWLY he will be fine same with summer, water temp has to equal out,EX when you bay a fish it is usually in a bag so you just float the bag for same 10 mins.

However i personally would not recommend introducing new fish in the winter

This is true. But the place I bought my fish told me the water temperature from the fish store and your pond should be within 7degrees of each other so you don't shock your fish.

I make sure mine are withing 1 degree and the water ph is the same. It usually takes 1-2 hours to do it right.
