@don hollowell patience nothing good happens fast in keeping aquatic life. Choose your plants wisely, as I mentioned you want plants that grow fast but can be removed/pruned easily. Avoid plants in the bog that have large root systems that can clog it. While it’s great that you have a bog,, the SSA for bacteria created by the big will help greatly in keeping your ammonia, nitrite under control. The plants are necessary in this style pond to keep nitrates down, usually nitrates/phosphates are what fuel unwanted algae in our ponds. Plants remove these as they grow, along with ammonia in some cases, and other things like metals that can accumulate in the pond from our source water/rain etc. Plant heavily, is my advice.

Not overstocked, not sure how many large koi you have had in the past. The bog will help just no more algaecides!

No amount of filtration will out power a underground spring if its loaded with minerals and organics green water is for you. but like jhn said patience no drastic steps no algicides

Way too many posts with algecide killing fish.
Please stop using algecide. Keep the algecide for your pool only! ;)

How big is the bog?
Could it be too small?
It is suggested that the surface area of the bog be at least 30% of the pond's surface area.

Exactly how is your bog constructed?
Please post details.

When I added the bog to my way overstocked pond my solid green water cleared within a week and has stayed clear for 2 years.

Oh, I think I understand the issue now. I think at least most of us were assuming you had green water. You have clear water, but just other forms of algae?

Correct me if I am wrong on this too!

I'm kind surprised that you can keep koi in a pond that feeds a natural lake - high risk of introducing a potentially invasive species into a natural waterway.

I'm also a bit surprised that you seem to understand what's killing your fish, but you keep repeating the same mistake. But maybe I'm not understanding the question.

A condo complex i lived in wanted to introduce grass carp , and they are similar with a stream feeding the pond and a stream leading away. they had to make a catch pool on the if come that the STERILIZED FISH THAT THEY SPENT A LITTERAL FORTUNE ON HAPPENED TO SPAWN, and they had to have chain link and steel rods driven across the stream.
Not to mention the environmental studies . fish and wild life permits it took them over a year.
