For liner, get the good quality stuff. I think 45 mil is the thickest and still has good flexibility. I thought the prices at Webb's Water Gardens online were good. Can't wait to see your pictures!

Welcome and pond does not need cleaned by a pro all it needs is your love and like said a swimming pool net .A uv bulb does not last a long time and even though it is lit does not mean it is working .Is this pond a preformed or liner pond .Draining and cleaning a pond is not always good for the pond or the fish .

Check out an Oase pond vacuum.
It'll really suck out the slime and scum!
Also, if you DO replace the liner, I'd increase the pond size (we all wish we had gone larger) and I'd use a Firestone brand liner. It is the toughest out there.
It costs a bit more, but you probably won't ever have to replace it.
It's made out of tough "inner tube" type rubber.
The small pond I had back in York county used to freeze almost solid every winter. But my Goldfish lived through it all.
I miss winter.
