Is this an acceptable location for a pondless waterfall feature?

Take a close up of some of the rocks. And what area of the country are you in?

No rock is too large, to make them look like they have been there forever, bury about 1/2 to 2/3 of the rock, don't just place on the ground. I love large rocks.

I'm in San Diego.

Sorry these aren't the best photos in the world, but hopefully you get the idea. some of these guys weigh upwards of 400 lbs

The liner should be epdm liner to last .If you look at pondless builds on youtube it is better .I use sump pump hose and just run it all inside the pond so if it leaks it will not drain my pond and kill my fish .Since you have no fish only harm would come to the pump .My liner is not cut anyplace .Most pondless use a vault that holds the water and the pump and the hose just runs up the liner to where it exits from the waterfall .

You actually do have some gorgeous rock there - looks like a lot of iron in some of them? I would pick and choose the best ones to start with - get some good framing rocks and start from there. Like @addy1 suggested, sink them 1/2 to 1/3 of the way in the ground to make them look more natural around the feature.

Is there a resource out there which gives information on waterfall aesthetics. Like I don't know what qualifies as a framing rock, or what I should be looking for.

I would think framing rocks would be mostly larger rocks .But placing them is like placing puzzle pieces .Ponddigger on youtube has some good info and so does aquascape

Definitely check out The Pond Digger on YouTube. He does a great job of breaking down the aesthetics of pond and waterfall construction.

Basically the framing rocks are the ones that will "frame" your waterfall. So you want to choose those especially for that spot. Hand selecting and planning ahead where you want certain rocks to go will give you your framework - everything else is filling in the blanks.

Just like when you plant a flower pot thrillers ,spillers and fillers .Big ones you can consider your thrillers and medium sized rocks your spillers and then all the little ones left become fillers to fill in gaps left by the other rocks

Excellent analogy! I'm going to remember that!
