I also have a large pond/dam. Where are you located? I would love to take some of those cattails off your hands /pond.
Also waders are awesome for pond edge clearing and inspecting the dam. I was lucky to find a pair of chest waders at the Goodwill.

after some digging and asking around-

this was originally dug to be a swimming hole (!) and if you look carefully at the pic from the 70s it does not have a waterfall or dam. The previous homeowner started the dam. We have been fortifying it and building it back up using whatever materials we can find. A canoe is in the works (used) and some more cat tail dredging will begin soon.
