Probably not any way to estimate age, other than telling if it's very young or very old -- like looking at a puppy or kitten. This little guy [like you said] looks very thin, and while he's active, he's more passive than any of the other minnows I've had -- he was easy to catch and didn't protest at being held. And when I was messing with him, I felt a great deal of respect for him......I think they have a lifespan of 2-4 years old so it could be an original. I just wasn't sure if there was a way to guesstimate age in a fish,
