The rain floods their holes that they live in, so they climb out and this is the time of year they spawn, so they look for water to wash their eggs off in. Guess my fish are getting some extra protein these days! LOL! I don't think they are spawning in my pond, they normally go to the ocean for that.

Here's an article of how out of hand they can get.

Super interesting article, thanks for posting it. It's so neat how all us ponders come from all over the world, with different climates.

Well, I just went out the pond, its covered in tiny white feathers. I'm wondering what went on out there! I guess the green heron made a visit and something happened, not sure what. Maybe the crabs went after him? LOL! Or the big tilapia I have in the pond may have had a go at a leg dangling in the pond. I hope the crabs gave him a good pinch!

The fish are in the deep end hiding under the lilies.

Feeling very National Geographic at the moment. Too many critters.

I find it amazing that a saltwater crab can go hunt for dinner in a freshwater pond.
Priscilla, you need to get a trail cam with all your wildlife!:)

I know! Any suggestions for a camera?

And another weird thing is they are 'land crabs' sitting in the bottom of my pond! Just hanging out.

We didn't catch any crabs tonight. Late start. But we have a third monster crab in the pond, we tried to trap him in a net but he was too strong and crafty I will get a picture of him, he is a big one! Going back out after the muck settles so we can see him and try to catch him again.

I do love to eat crab!! So glad I don't have to worry about them in my pond, though.
