I just saw on the news that Irma is almost 6 times the size of our last cat 5 hurricane, Andrew.

We've made a special survival shelter for our 2 pound chihuahua, Suki. A closet full of pillows.
She will very easily blow away if the house gets breached and it likely will

I've not heard what the storm surge level is projected to be, but I wish you the best of luck.
I hear the roads are packed anyways. I've heard stories of many people that tried to leave but couldn't because of the volume of people.

Leaving is not possible.
No longer anyway.
Even yesterday it was already too late. Now people from the West coast are also trying to get North.

This is my fortification.
Fiberglass shutters covered by plywood shutters covered by three automobiles.
This is the side of the house that should get the brunt of the storm.
The rear is less protected. But still forified

My wife has an aunt in an assisted living facility in the Miami -Dade area.
Thankfully she is not very aware of her surroundings.
The residents and a few staff are staying.

Time will tell.
This time tomorrow night, we'll know about when and where for real.
Before then, it's just all theory.

Stay safe, @ZEROPILOT. I'm hoping for the best for FL but I'm also realistic that this is going to be one for the record books.

I have lots of friends and family in FL. Friends in Miami have their emergency supplies and they are going to ride out the storm at a neighbor's house as their house does not have storm shutters for their windows and plywood was completely gone from Home Depot even early this week. My sister in law's dad is in Jupiter--from what I am hearing, he is ready, but he is in his 80s and is diabetic, so I am hoping SIL's brother has a backup plan in place to keep his insulin refrigerated. Hubs' brother and family are in Tampa and are not planning to evacuate even though as of this morning they did not have a lot of supplies ready. Hubs is kind of aggravated about this... We'll see what happens.

The storm has shifted west. Our places are escaping the worse of it, the west coast is going to be in big trouble!
We are far enough inland to miss the storm surges. We will still be hit with tropical force winds.

The keys are, currently, getting a direct hit.

My family would've been in big trouble if they still lived down there! Originally they lived on the east side near Orlando but lived in the Tampa area the last few years. Good thing they moved out of Fla.
