When did they hatch? 4" is normally 6 months or more.

Thats a good question DrDave. I discoverd them when they were about 1 3/4" hiding in some rock I had around they top edge. Thought there was only 1 at first but ended up finding 3 total. I transferd them to my 150 gallon lilly tub to get some size on them and have since put them back in the big pond and they are doing great.I'm geussing they were probably a month or two old when I discoverd them.

These are the three that I suspect. The one in the center is the female i'm pretty sure from the body shape. The daddy is one of the other two. The one right below is a youngin.
The other pick is of the 3 young ones and a couple adults.

Well I thought I would post some pics of all my fry from this year. Some of these were born the first of May. The rest were from around May 25th. They range in size from 3/4" to just over 3". They are from at least 4 different spawns. So there will be a huge variety of colors when they are done. I think I even saw some butterfly babies in the group. The pictures are just a few of the 300 plus I still have left. Sorry there is a lot of stuff in the water making the pictures sub-par. But with cleaning out 4 troughs of water and pulling every Koi out, it got a little dirty. We sperated them out by dark, light and mix in colors. I was excited to see many doitsu scales and some with some very large scales. It has been so much fun watching them grow. And I know there are so many more changes to come.

I'm not sure what happened to mine. I used to see them along the edges of my pond but, now not a one. After they get a little bigger do they descend deeper? Never have seen any at any point come up to feed. I figured in a mud pond they would flourish on their own but maybe not.

when they hang aound the shallows and edges they do it because of the hiding spots between the stones and such. as they grow and gain confidence that they wont be eaten they wander further and further away. mine hung around the rocks and other hiding spots too. now all over 2" they swim with the herd. i wish i had kept them segregated longer.. they were growing faster.

Do yours come up to feed on regular koi food now? I have one in a small aquarium and he eats the bits and pieces that sink so I'm assuming that is what the ones in the pond are doing.
