@addy1 I do feel fortunate that it's just my husband, our grown daughter, and me. Very easy to plan and prepare food. We've been to the store twice since the beginning of March and, after the second trip, won't need to go again until the end of April. People keep warning of food shortages, but so far we aren't seeing that in the midwest. There were limits on a few items, but the shelves were basically full of everything. They are limiting the number of people they allow in stores, but we're hearing that's because people were using the stores as a form of entertainment... bringing the whole family and browsing around. Some stores will only sell "essential goods" but relax... liquor, cigarettes and pot all made the list of essentials!
Don't try to buy your kid a bike though - not essential. A friend of my daughter's was trying to do exactly that - it's her son's 10th birthday gift - she stood in line outside her local Walmart, went in to grab the bike and got in line to pay for it and they refused to sell it to her. Ridiculous. The supposed "damage" of her being in that store had already been done. They told her she could go to customer service, order the bike, and have it shipped to her house... how does that makes sense? Spend MORE time in the store, have contact with MORE people. Just dumb.
We live in an area where lots and LOTS of folks have summer homes and the locals are LOSING THEIR MINDS because "those people" are coming here to wait out the stay at home order and buying "our groceries" and "our gas". My thoughts are A. they pay property tax and bought those houses - who are you to say they can't choose to come and use their own house? and B. without "them" you wouldn't have local grocery stores or gas stations because the off-season population sure can't support them. Ask the local businesses how THEY feel about the additional customers... I bet they're happy to see them. These are the things that worry me - people turning on people. Our neighborhood Facebook page is full of neighbors telling other neighbors what their kids should or shouldn't be doing outside, reporting on cars parked with out of state license plates, keeping track of who's coming and going with a boat on a trailer. It's CRAZY. Like we have a bunch of tattle tales deciding what's OK and what's not. Ugh. Calm down people.
The weather finally gave us a break and I got a few days to putter around outside. Puttered so hard one day I could barely walk by evening! haha! I have a looooooong list of projects that I am slowing chipping away at. The garage clean out took me three days, but now it's so nice to know where to look for stuff. I have a hedge that's gonna meet up with my chain saw in a day or so... part of the "get to it this summer" list that just got popped to the top! I figure it will be easier to manage before it starts putting on leaves.
I've been taking several long walks every day with the dogs - they're living their very best life right now. The people are home all day for petting and walks every day. What a life!
