I finally joined your forum. I've been lurking for several years and have learned a lot from all of you, plus, I really enjoy the banter that goes on between many of the active members :).

I live in Sunnyvale, CA which is about 30 minutes south of San Francisco.

My pond is a small preformed pond I got from a friend who was stopping the hobby. I have 2 goldfish in it along with a couple of Lilly pads, and, this year, a lot of algae. My dogs consider it a water bowl, flavored water is much better than that stuff that comes out of the faucet. Other visitors to my pond are my cat (she's fallen in more than once) and a lot of hummingbirds.

The raccoons seem to leave it alone (must get enough food from my neighbors who leave food out for their cats). Found a great blue heron in my vegetable garden one day, but, with the wire fence and tall plants around the pond, he didn't get in there.

One of these days, I am going to dig out a nice big (for me) 500 gallon pond.

Thanks for letting me lurk :)

Thanks everyone~! I have plenty of time to dig the hole since I'm unemployed at the moment, just no $$ to buy the liner. So, do I dig a big gaping hole in my yard that will sit there for some time? I think I know the answer~! I'll have to do all the work by myself, as my husband has no interest or desire to help.

I'll probably just spend my time tweaking my plans for now. :)

A big bottle of wine, and a few gals in Bikini's will get him interested! If not, give him two bottles of wine and the recliner, once he's passed out grab his credit card and hire a excavator, One way ot the other you'll get his full blown, well almost his full blown attention! LOL (jk):)

jas2cats, somebody got an old billboard and used for a liner. Found it, I think, on craigs list. They are made of tough stuff, I used to cover things in arizona with it.

Interesting idea addy1. I could put the picture/wording side up so the fish could read :).

Fishin, Hubby is a General Contractor, it'd have to be beer and the bikini babes LOL I like the credit card idea, but, he's just as broke as me.

I just have to keep plugging away at it. I do try to look for things I can get for free or next to nothing. So far, that has been a nice 55 gallon container for my bio filter, and, most of the fittings.

Hi Jas2cats, my two cents, 2 + years ago I was in the same situation, general contractor/ developer that went down with the market. Well I built my pond because I didn't have a whole lot to do and put in some friendly fish and sat by it every day and thought a lot about what to do next. My wife thought I went nuts at the time. Figured out I had to get into fixing up foreclosures and learn the business inside out even if I had to work for free. It has worked out pretty well. Now I get banks calling me all times of the day to help them out with their problems. I can only attribute my good luck to the therapy my pond provided!

yeh my son does that too they call him a property manager .foreclosures are many and some just need clean up and a little love to get them back on the market at a respectable price so they sell .But to be honest he has been busy up in NJ with his contracting and owns a tattoo parlor also so goes back and forth with the 3 things right now .He was in NC for awhile helping there with the tornado victims .Not sure where he is at times

Sissy he sounds smart. You need to watch where the opportunities are and use your talents to help people. Many people get stuck on one thing and have a hard time adapting to change especially when they have been doing the same thing for a while. It been interesting/sad watching what happened to all the home builders here. Most of them got wiped out including the banks they were doing business with.
