Pretty koi, MT! Put heavier rocks on top of the dirt in your lily pots, and that will hopefully keep the hungry koi away. :) Good luck!!! And, the lily will likely be just fine, just put it back in pot and some larger rocks and go for it.

Tomorrow if the pond warms up a little more I plan on putting the 4 koi that I have had in the house all winter into the pond. They eat out of my hand so I'm hoping they will stay that way and show the other fish in the pond that they can trust me.

Good luck, hope they do too. Mine know I mean food now and don't go running. I only feed them out in the middle of the deep end so hopefully if harry the heron stops by they are smart enough to stay deep. Not run to the edge and become sushi for the heron.

They will remember, MT. My little ones in the kiddie pool all winter were just as tame in the pond. Addy does have a good point, though ... mine all come to the edge, even though I feed from the deck above the pond. I need to feed them farther out in the middle, to keep them from coming to the edge, too!

so far all I have is my 1 eyed owl in his nest in the trees behind my house .I think he stays close here because I feed him and there is water out by his nest in a tank .I guess he gets plenty of mice too .Don't know what happened to it's eye ,it has been here since it was a baby and stole my quilt batting for his nest ,He watches me when i am outside though but never been able to get a decent pic of him .All I get is a blur of him flying and after the first couple of times i was afraid he would hurt himself .Never saw a heron accept postings here

I feed mine in the middle of the pond also. The 10 months that my pond has been running I haven't seen a heron or any raccoons. :sun_smiley:

The fish stay in the middle, they have learned food rains down there. They see any movement, head for the middle.

I've been fighting string algae for the last 3 weeks. What a nightmare! I had a sock with cat litter below my waterfall but since it was in the water I don't think it was being very effective as far as having a lot of water movement. So today I added 3 more socks with litter and took the sock that was below the falls and placed it on a rock below the falls that was above the waterline and now the water is hitting the litter filled sock before going into the pond. The pond became immediately cloudy. I'm hoping I'll be seeing some die off soon of that horrible algae.
