You'll be just fine. Brick really isn't all that hard to lay. Biggest part is making sure each row is level and getting the mortar mixed to the right consistency. Just use a string on the top outer corner and follow it and you'll stay level. It's cheaper buying Portland cement, getting a load of sand, and mixing your own mortar mix. It's easier buying the premixed though.
