Gosh this seems to be a common problem w/ the algae now that the sun is starting to show its face eh? Anyway I just use 100% clay kitty litter for the string algae and also off and on use the quilt batting in a basket under my falls to catch the free floating stuff. I'm starting to sound like a broken record...........anybody still know what records are?

I have a rock type filter on the bottom of the pond which then goes to a tetrapond canister filter which then goes through a pipe and blasted through black lava pumice stone.
2000 gallons and koi is pushing it a bit. It will all depend on how good your filtration is. With GOOD filtration, you can safely have 4-5 koi with NO OTHER FISH. It is easy to end up with 10-20 koi when they are small, but the issue is keeping HIGH WATER QUALITY when they are 24-30" in size. The better your filtration, the more you can "get away with". If you want more fish then this, your options are to be sure your filtration is superb, or go bigger hehehe...

LOL... I come at this from the wrong prospective. I am bad about putting too many fish in a small area, but know hubby will just add more filtration as needed. What is really bad is I know how bad I am. It has only been the last year that I have had any interests in water qualities. I would insist on buying more (while we were pondless but for the qt) and he would tell me we were over stocked, and instead of buying JUST 1-2 more, I came home with half a dozen LOL. Unlike most folks, being a professional pond person, he would just get into his spare parts and slap something together to cover for my impulses LMAO.

Hubby already had planned on putting another pond in this year, but now he is adding yet another. I'm hoping to cut the number in half by summer/fall, but want to sit on a bunch until the following year. There are no decent options to get variety here, so will grow out the babies, and just play the process of elimination game. I was able to get a really good price on them ... the most expensive was the Tancho Sanke in the front of the pic, which was $2.50...
