using water softener salt (solar salt) is fine its the amounts he planning on using... 1&1/4 cup per 100 gals is the norm...he wants to put in 40 lbs in a 800 gal pond...10 cups max is the correct ammount.

In order to get a 0.1% solution of salt in a salt-less pond, you need to add 0.75 pounds of salt per 100 gallons of pond water.
If the man is taking his ponds salinty up to .6 then he's right.

His fish are probably jumping because their irritated from all the salt. Which I know is the purpose in order accomplish a heavier slime coat. But why, if you have a healthy thriving pond do any salt at all?

why would you ever want to go that high with a salt concentration...except parasites? especially with fish in the pond and he says leave it, no water changes or even adding water for 30 days atleast...........
