no a pump needs to pump into it and needs cleaned often .I use them as filters in my stock tanks .I put a piece of reusable blue filter stuff on top to catch the heavy stuff and the quilt batting under it .I use lava rock in my filters and dollar store bags to hold my activated charcoal and the crushed oyster shells .
