Hey there. In FL we are experiencing a heat wave, about a week of 80 degree temps. My koi have started bumping and thrashing around as if they were spring breakers at Daytona Beach. I am toying with the idea of putting some batting in the water for them to lay their eggs but I worry that it will get cold soon. I was wondering if trying for a batch of fry this early in the season might backfire and harm the usual breeding that occurs in March.

Just wanted to check in and share a little something for the new year.

We hit 50 today, 66 on sunday, the fish where all out swimming around. Have not seen any chasing though. I would let nature take its course, if some make it they make it.

I did something similar as I have lava rock and then on top plenty of floating plants in the filter and work great so going to put in a larger oval tank this spring and temps here going up to the 70's and pond and plants going nuts

water gets dumped into prefilter basket and the goes down then comes up the white pipe and out the tank adapter on the front which the white pipe is connected too .I have 2 filters like that

Ha Ha! Naples FL. Retirement capital of the world. You know it is difficult to get floating plants in Naples. I've tried. Some companies online sell them but when you put in the zip code they hold that part of the order. I've watched some videos about aquaponics online. Where you flood and drain a gravel bed with veggies and other plants. I might give this a try. Sad thing is my liner has a leak somewhere. It loses about 4 inches of water every 24 hours. I treat it as a water change since I am on a well I refill every night. So I might be in the market for a new liner.

Nice pix of your pond and fish Alvarero but couldn't get the video one to work. Bummer about that leak. Does it go down to a certain point and then stop? Maybe if it does you can go along that line of water level and see if you can find the hole and try to patch. If it doesn't hold then you can fork out the money for a new liner. Best of luck to ya!

J.W. I put water in every night for about 30 minutes, used to be my water change. The water would go out into my banana plants. Now the water level just goes down about 5 inches. The water goes back down to the water table which isn't very deep but certainly I would like to avoid a catastrophic mass tear one night and find all my fish doing the Gangnam dance in a dry pond.
