The round filter in my pic is changing to a oblong container so I can grow more plants in it .Something like the stock tank you are talking about and I am just make the little waterfall area wider

I think it will work out the way I am thinking, although probably not expressing well. I just got to watching youtube videos and it seemed everyone covered their entire liners with rock, which I would rather not do, and that got me thinking in another direction about keeping the bottom clean.

I like your Green and Black ones, I haven't seen that variety. The ones I have been raising are definitely a different variety than most. The ears stand upright and are almost like "waxy", The tank, like you mention, would also allow for plant growth, which as you can see I enjoy :)

Not sure what it's like in VA right now, but we are just coming out of a massive drought. I bet we have gotten 8-10 inches of rain the past 2 weeks so the dig should go a lot smoother! I would like to get it done soon because the local craiglist is filled with people dumping big kio cheap right now and wanting rid of plants which I'll set up an inside tank for.

Gosh another lover of you tube and craigslist .I always scope both out .Most koi and pond people do not like rocks on the bottom ,to hard to clean .I have never had rocks but koi are harder to take of and more fussy about there water and like mine get over 2 ft long in just 8 years and are destroyers of plants and sorry to say but they poop a lot which means great filtering and lots of it .I have found since keeping plants in my filters I have not had to clean the bottom of them out ,no muck .I guess plants really do eat it up .I now have grasses in my pond as per colleen on here told me they are great water filters by themselves .We where in a drought but seems like since the hurricane we have been getting rain just about every day .Out of curiosity I turned on my outlet for my filter and the only thing that came out was clean water ,I think your idea will work and the only way you will know is give it a try .I have had my pond over 8 years and no dead fish yet .So mine works and what you have planned is similar to mine except I don't have a stream and besides that you are always tweaking a pond .I do use lava rock in my filters which most say doesn't work but it sure works for me .The only thing now I want to get is a primer pot or leaf basket which goes in before your pump and catches gunk and roots my koi rip apart and it clogs the pump up .I found it on eastern koi.com the cheapest thanks to addy at only 49 dollars

I have no rocks on the bottom of my pond, just liner and potted lilies, so it is easy to net the bottom twice a year. Keeps it nice. (in answer to your ? on the other page)
