That is non-clumping, non-perfumed, cheap, all clay kitty litter. I buy it a Walmart in red bag. 25lbs for around $5.00

thanks for the comments ,i may of given the notion that my water is green which it isnt ,i only drained and filled it easter monday
and its crystal clear at the moment ,with the filters uv light unplugged will the water turn green or will it stay clear by filtering it alone,
i read here that uv lights are great at clearing green water( but not recommended as it may kill any good bacteria also)
so for a start up pond, the question is to plug or not to plug the uv light
No, i understood that you wanted to avoid green water going forward. It is part of the cycling of a pond and i don't think it can be totally avoided. I never have had a uv light so i don't know if they will keep the pond from going green or not.

If you want a bio filter and a bog, split the water from pump between the two. That is how I set mine up so that you get the benefit of both.

im not sure about this but could it be evaporation?
after refilling my pond monday to the top while the pump and waterfall were on
my water level is dropping slowly in the pond its now an inch below the full mark in only 4 days of glorious sunshine
averaging about 17 degrees c ,im thinking the worse in case is ive a small leak either in pond or waterfall,
i checked for damp patchs on the concrete floor around the waterfall area and theres none ,so it could be leaking from the waterfall into the surronding earth ,and being soaked up maybe
i checked the fittings in the filter and its bone dry
could it even be splash back or all the above together,im clutching straws now i know ,but how do i find out if its leaking or not?
any ideas or suggestions for this outthere

I lose water this time of year, cool days, hot days, sun, no sun, low humidity, winds, running water = evaporation. I add water every day now.

Water falls are known to be good at leaks, look for a small area, a tickle flow behind a rock, around a rock and out can remove a lot of water.
