I noticed my pond water was starting to cloud up green now. I'm hoping it will clear up now that it hasn't been sunny for a few days otherwise should I turn my pump back on or is it too cold and will it chill the fish moving all the water around. They like to stay down at the bottom and only come up when the weather warms and my pump is pretty powerful for my size and really circulates well

String algae will not make your water green. Single cell algae will.
Sissy,
The reason they are cheap is because I was tired of seeing people ripped off by nurseries and on-line sellers. You do have to come get them as I do not ship. I still make enough to pay my gardener to maintain the property.
My plants and koi are inexpensive, my time is not.
Yep no string algae here, just kinda pea soup from the sun we had a few days back. Ice has covered the pond for now but it is melting fast. Temps are heading up, snow and ice bye, bye til next year
Each year my plant coverage gets better and in the summer my lilies take over most of the pond but in the winter when the plants die back and we get sunshine for too long the algae makes it's entrance off and on. I have planted some evergreen bushes on the South side and when they get a bit bigger that will help. The ones I have are slow growers and miniature as I don't want them overpowering the pond. I really wish I would have left more room around the pond so I could have planted Windmill Palms all around it..............maybe next time
I bought 3 of the cold hardy palms problem is they are very slow growers 1 is 3 years old and still looks the same size as when I bought it .I also have cold hardy needle palm
I've got one palm that I got while I was in Cali. several yrs ago and it's a Mexican fan palm. Have to keep it in a pot and roll it in and out of the garage when the cold comes as it's not hardy here in our winters. I also have a tiny Windmill palm I started from seed that I picked off the ground at the zoo in Seattle. I'll be dead before that thing reaches a good height. Might have to break down and actually buy one of the bigger ones from Costco. They've been having them each summer for a few yrs now for only twenty some dollars and they are pretty good sized. Here's are some pics of my poor palms:
I've got another one in the house I started from seed also and it's called an European Palm and some say it is hardy here but not sure. Also have a couple more small Mexican Palms from seed in the house but they will need re-potting this Spring and I don't know how long they will be able to fit in the house. Then what...........roll 3 of them in and out all winter?
muscles from all that think of it as cardio .I will have to take a pic of my palms I bought them at lowes clearanced out end of season for 10 dollars and they just grow so slow here .My brother-in-law lives in Norfolk VA and he bought his 2 years ago and his are 3 times the size of mine .I bought my cold hardy banana and covered it with extra mulch and can see it peeking out now .It has green lives but the underside of the leaves are deep burgandy .
I'm hoping my banana survived as I moved it right before fall and it wasn't established very well in the new spot right up against the south side of the house.
When my water turned my filters were off once i got them running and the fines filter on it took about 4 days to get clear but now i am back to crystal clear
I would guess it was to much heat against the southside of your house .They need air circulation and sun all around them but not the heat they might gain from the house siding .I had one at my house in NJ and wish I had brought it here with me .I always add extra mulch around it for the winter so the ground stays warmer .
