JHN can you elaborate on the class/ grading of rock R8? and or others . I may have got a few deals but I know little on sale of rock and classifications.

I mostly work with granite, so I don't think they really classify river cobble this way. The smallest I use is R3 (6" and under rock called Gabion), R4 (6"-12"), then it starts going by weight, R5 (50-300lb), R6 ( 300-800lb), R7(800-1600lb.), R8 (1600-3000lb.)

The classification means roughly 90% of the rock is this size, with a few smaller and some larger. This applies mostly with the smaller rock that is loaded with a loader.

Once you start getting the larger sizes like the r7 and above it is loaded by excavator one or two at a time, which of course drives the cost up around $8-10 a ton. However, just about all the rock is in the appropriate size range, except for a rock or two put on to get the load up near the appropriate weight limit.

Drilled and pinned the bond beam placed 40" #7 rebar into the bond beam. The pink on the bond beam is fiberglass insulation that was used to keep the concrete warm as it dried as temps dropped below freezing . a concrete scarifier was used to clean it off the concrete . I did not polish the bond beams concrete but left it with a course surface giving the mortar a better hold . Unfortunately the previous owner or owners must have tried a DYI project as the patio is now three layers. The first layer is about 2" thick poured concrete and has some pretty good cracks. But it holding together. The second layer is about 3" of concrete poured over the 2" layer unfortunately this layer was not troweled all that well and had some significant undulations to surface. This layer had a couple significant cracks that were visible on the surface . The top layer I applied that being concrete pavers placed on 1 1/2" of sand that was compacted and the 2" pavers place on the sand. This is a big reason for the cinderblock wall to support the edge of the patio as it will allow me to fill in under the concrete patio where some of the soil had collapsed.
Patio layers
1 the two white layers are the concrete thin layers the greenish strip color is 1 1/2 solid concrete block that was used to help contain the sand along the edge of the patio and the gray /blue is plastic termination strip for the concrete pavers This was where I was going to install a termination bar for the liner but now it will be secured to the concrete new cinder block wall

Been a productive couple of days. Got the trench dug for the new hedge, that's doubling for a pipe chase and a second trench that's runs to the garage at a depth of 48" as it will have the stream crossing over head . A 2" pvc pipe for rain water collection from half of the house that's runs to the back yard. And half way to the back yard I decided on having a vent so the 2" flows unrestricted by air,at a depth of 48" as it will have the stream crossing over head . Where phase three will be a 2000 gallon plastic under ground vault. A new 1 1/2 ul pvc power feed to the garage and the skimmer return using 2" flex." should have gone with the flex on everything damn that was so easy but my yard is so rocky I didn't feel comfortable with everything Buried in flex. Pulled out all the ice at the bottom of the pond just in time for the weatherman to change his mind to a freezing mix coming in on Wednesday. Received the second Rhino Main drain I ordered and as I was thinking I should have stayed with the one drain and placed a large boulder on top of it making the suction diffused in surface area for someone to not get stuck I think the rule was 36" "{I still may go this route, Might be interesting having the air diffuser coming up so wide then again it may concentrate the bubbles to large and loud }". Also picked up some soil boost for the shrubs with 15 bags of Peat moss and 30 bags of compost. With any luck I will have the liner in this weekend.

Arial view from the lower roof. Pond see's shade until 10:00 am then it's only half the pond is in the sun. Until 2 PM when the garage and a swamp maple block 40% of pond in shade. built the bond beam between the bog and the garage.

Coming along very nicely
THANKS GUYS AND GALS.... The weather has given me a break and I have been busy trying to get phase one done, well.stabilized with the liner I hope to install the 8 oz non woven underlayment on Friday and the liner on Saturday.. Regrettably I have gone from an 8 foot deep pond to 6 feet deep more soil washed into the bottom of the pond over the winter then I cared to dig out by hand. so sorry for the misrepresentation of 12,000 gallons in the title but between all the boulders and the loss of two feet in the rather small bottom which now has two main drains or suction intakes FOR CODE SAKE!!!! I'll post some update photo's tomorrow.
It's nice to see some installs happening as my yard is toast from all the rock and driving on the lawn and equipment.

That pond is going to be so neat! Enjoying your build

Am I paranoid I am using 8 oznon woven underlayment two layer one before the liner is placed and a second layer over the liner to protect it from all the rocks heading into the pond. Well if nothing else the rubber should last a long time if this works uvlight won't stand a chance of getting to the rubber.

You might like this link to your hardiness zone, I noticed you have yours at zone 4. I do not think any part of Ct has a zone 4. I do not know where you are but this should help you find out. Maybe helpful for the plants you pick out.

Thanks for the link yes it seems I am in zone 6b which opens the plant variety ten fold. I tried to change that fact in my profile but it seems to be one thing you can't change. I have a few plants I know i'm going to have but I have done very little as to aplanting plan

If you hover over your name next to "Inbox" in upper right hand corner you can then click on "personal details" and change quite a bit of your information including: status message, avatar, DOB, location, occupation, country, hardiness zone, etc.
