Platinum GinRin Ogon butterfly
I have been on the hunt for a dragon ogon butterfly but I'm looking for one with the armor pattern. That's not so hard to find but one with fat fins is the hard part.

And that butterfly has the fins I like nice and fat. Score for you @Gemma

That's funny, I like the "shredded" looking fins better.
Good luck on your hunt for the butterfly dragon!... for "dragon" do you mean kikokuryu, or are there other koi called dragon?

The hole for the bog is done, it is going to be roughly 4'x10'x4' deep cause we're using the Matrix blocks

Hubby and I have decided to put all fish in the large pond and close the small, so that all our fish are in one place.
I'm very excited about it cause I can't really enjoy the fish in the small pond and I feel guilty that the others get all the attention.
I will have 24 koi and 2 shubunkin in 6,500- 6,800gls, I hope it's not too much of a load....this bog better turn out super efficient

Don't feed them much at all yes I know they are hungry but look at it as an extra cleaning crew to munch on the fuzz algae.

What is your current filter? You may want to keep it running till the plants in your bog get established. That is a big load if those koi are all adults. I kept my extra filters running with the bogs as I am overstocked as well.

I try to keep the bog alive as much as possible by not shutting it down. I run a large air stone through the snorkel all winter so when the water gets shut down at least the bog doesn't go stagnant. This year I have been amazed I have some inch long hair on most of the rocks but the fish are chomping on it and the hair algea if any did appear when I vacuumed the pond for the winter leaves where I had a lot. I was a bad Stuart last fall.

Like I said this fabric wicks the water you can use it to your advantage but you need to respect that it will go where ever you allow it to as well.

I have no intention of ever turning off the main filter, the bog is just an added filtration

We try to run our ponds all winter and some years we succeed, others we have to shut it down for 2 to 4 weeks.
I wish we could run the bog the same but I was told the lines might freeze so the airs tone you mentioned sounds good, thanks

I have had the bog running since mid March or so. When we get the cold snaps we are having like 27 30f etc the pond water can dive down by 5-9 degrees over night. With the bog running there is a lot of water surface exposed to the cold.

I will never leave mine running all winter, but mine is huge. 27 x 4 feet.

I was hoping to hear from you guys, that my pond size and filtration could accommodate that fish load, wishful thinking I guess.
Sounds like I'll have to rehome some of the fish, not an easy thing for me to do ....how many could I comfortably hold?

I have no clue with koi They say 1 = 1000 gallons and then 500 per additional But I would think it would also depend on your type of filtration.

The pond we closed down last year had 7 large koi and 12 in the 10-18" range. 150gal stocktank bog plus Savio waterfall filter and did not have issues. It was about 4500gal.

I read 500 gl x female and 250 gl x male, but more important than gallons of water it is the amount of surface area....all this info and I still can't figure out how many koi this pond can house comfortably

I have 15 koi , most of them are 20 to 30" aside from a couple of smaller ones The filter can handle this no problem but we decided to build the bog in case something happens that we have to work on the other pond, so we could move all fish to this one
You asked about my current filter, sorry I didn't answer ....the skimmer box and waterfall are the largest we could find on the market, (I think it's 44" spill ) stuffed with Matala pads and topped with lava rocks.
