I would not go to big for an indoor pond, you won't grow very good plants and it could make mold grow on walls. I used to have a 100 gallon pond indoors and the room got damp and am glad to have gotton rid of it, mold not good. I have seen some nice indoor streams and ponds in large buildings, some people can make it work good.
if i spend a bit extra, i can get dies for all the wood in the building, its an anti mold and rot, and use plastic layers throughout the building process.

What will i need after construction. for the pond itself. what do koi's need for essentials, to be happy and healthy. what types of plants will they like best, sand bottom, small stones, hallowed logs, I never made a koi pond before, i know that this is a crazy idea for a first but i like challenges. so anything thing on the fish part will help the best.

Check out the threads on here in the build section for the guys building indoor koi ponds in their basements. Koiguy1969 has a basement pond he winters all of his koi in & he is in a similar USDA zone in Michigan to you. Check out his posts, only thing you will have different is that his pond is below ground & yours is more of a free standing building, like a shed/ cabin, correct? Winter heat would be your biggest issue, and I'm sure if you set up some kind of air ventilation like sissy's neighbor did, that could help your moisture problem , but I would expect that to not be a huge issue since the winter air is really dry. Possibly in fall/spring, but really wouldn't know until ou did it. First off, figure out your budget for th project & adapt your plan based off that. Good luck!

Shermin that is just awesome, and the glass is a really nice touch! That would be awesome if you had something like that! Might cost a lot of money, but if you got it you may as well spend it and have a really really nice place to relax!!

Will be neat watching you build the pond and how it turns out for you. I've got a green house w/ the auto sensor windows that open when it gets hot. Wonder how many of those moisture sucking bowls of white foamy things called DryZaire or something like that it would take to rid some of the moisture in there? We use them in our rv when storing it over the winter. You might need too many tho all the time and might not be cost effective.

Having been an indoor koi keeper prior to going outdoors your going to have to look into two problems evaporation and condensation.
Have you worked out how to get around that ?

im thinking about looking into some indoor pool systems to see how they deal with that, i figure that is the most common thing for mass amount of water indoors.

None per se... the ceiling in the basement is the joists that is the first floor of the house (colonial), with paper backed insulation... normal every day basement/poured foundation...
