Perhaps but not in the amount that comes off one tiny nut in 6 months. A 12 oz glass of water would hardly discolor let alone a 3000 gallon pond.

Stainless steel nuts are not much more than the regular ones .I wonder what the rust would do also to cause problems with your pond when you do a water test .

I remembered I had some 1''x4''x4'' tile samples that I used.They weigh over a pound (474 grams.) and one tile held everything down, even my Koi haven't moved them.
