Jw my two first survivors were only 1.5 inches 1.5 yrs ago, I put them in the pond around sept of 2010. The other shubies you see in the pond are all babies, so they have grown pretty fast. A bunch are doing the chasing stuff.

JW, her survivors, in the pond in fall at 1.5", were the ones making babies last year! I think she didn't get the rescued fish until fall. And, because she only had a few fish, more babies survived, or that's the thought. I think I had about 10 goldfish and 11 koi, and raised about 10 babies. I figure the more fish, the less babies that will survive past the egg and fry stage. So, unless you have 30 fish in your pond, my guess is you will have babies this year for sure!

CE I've had babies before just wanted the Shubbies to be parents to get some neat color combo's and longer tails. I have over 24 fish in my pond from 1" to 8 or 9" but all are oj or white or oj/white and I think only 2 of my Shubbies survived out of the 6 I bought unless there are hiders. Looks like I will be buying more Shubbies and perhaps some of those cute wiggly fantails. My fish do go after the eggs and prolly the fry too but some always manage to survive but like I said always turn out the oj kind of course. I have enough of those.

Ooooooooo, now I get it! I have baby Shubies in my aquarium that I'm hoping will be strong and vigorous this summer, but won't expect them to breed yet. They were maybe 1.5" when I got them from Wal-Mart in December, and now are about 3" so they have definitely grown. Then I bought a solid white goldfish, another one that is all white with red spot on head (long finned) and a very long finned orange Comet with white belly and white tips to all tails. My other very long finned white one died. I also caved in and bought a tri colored one that is red, white head and white tail, with black tips to the dorsal fin. The black will likely leave completely, but it has this clown face, I could not resist, even though it is a short fin variety. He/she will get to stay. My 3 Shubies were chosen for their color splashes. One has red head, black saddle, and the rest is white with black spots. Another one has red head and body is white with black speckles, and the third one is the same white and black speckles, with the middle of it's belly red on both sides. My favorite is the one with the black saddle, as the black seems to disappear so that one has the most black and I'm hoping it will stay put. My Shubunkin in the pond, when it was in my aquarium (it came with my 55 gal I bought) it had definite black areas, but it lost all black in the pond about a month after being put out there. Some of the babies have black, but most have lost their black, so I'm trying to introduce more black genes, not sure it will work, but I'm going to try.

This is what my original Shubunkin looked like. It now has no speckles of black or any black for that matter. It is solid red, with the white face and other white parts. There are at least 3 babies that have the same white face like her, so I assume they are her offspring. The new baby I got has this same face. Looks like a clown. I didn't remember what this fish looked like, and just found the picture. It doesn't look like this at all anymore. Funny how they change.
I think I will take pics of the baby koi in a small container before they go into the pond so I have pictures before ... and after. :)

I love the Shubby colors and yours sound nice and the one in the photo is pretty. I had a Shubby once a long time ago in an aquarium that I thought was so neat looking w/ it's long tail flowing and all the nice calico colors. Here is a very old pic of it. Don't mind the funny creatures in the photo, lol but it's the only one I have w/ the fish in it. Oh darn, after I put up the pix I see that you can't see the Shubby but gee that was a nice white long finned one too. Oh well!

Very pretty white long fin jw! Funny visitors you have too.......

I have a bunch of orange, orange with white markings, whites with orange markings, orange with clear fins, deep red with white, white with red, long tail fins, short tail fins, all fins longs, all fins short. That is just the gold fish.
The shubies, they are all white with black markings, orange with black, white and red, white with blue black and red, black with red, white and orange (they are harder to see) Some almost pure black waiting to see if they change but so far have not, pure black with just a little color, red, orange and white.
In the mix also are some creamy pale gold colors, like a yellow/bronze gold, no other color but that, with nice finnage.

A real mixing pot. Most of these shots are from last summer/fall. Snaps off the dvr

This long fin shubie is a gal, it has been chased recently

Wow, Addy, I was going to say which of those fish I liked the best, but no way could I find the prettiest one, as they are all gorgeous! It's so wonderful that you can get such clear pics underwater of your fish. I sure envy you! I would love to have the set-up you have, but don't have a clue on how to set it up. Would need my son to figure it out for me. :) Do you have more than the mostly white fantail? I thought I saw another one with more color in your videos, besides this white one, but maybe it was more colorful from the same one from the other side!
Here's Spot, who lived in the pond all winter.
New spotted fantail ... Spot!.JPG
This is the speckled fantail I bought in December at pet shop in Effingham.

The next 3 pics are the Shubunkins I got at Wal-Mart in December, still in aquarium until spring and warmer pond water.

And this last pic is the fantail that does not have the large round belly like Spot and Spec, so I guess just called a Fantail Goldfish.

Just noticed how blurry the Shubie photos are. Sorry about that. :-(

Well since it is a gal, it may have dropped enough eggs, last year, that one of the fry made it and one of them has a tri tail. If you happen to see one let me know. I watch but have not seen any yet.
It is whitish with shubunkin colors, some blues and black mainly.

OK, will check out the videos again and let you know if I see what I think is a second one. Do you know, is this female fantail marked similarly on the opposite side, not much spots? Because I sure thought I saw one with some red on it, but probably was one of your long tailed other fish, just looked like fantail. But, I will look later on!

You both have such neat looking colorful fish and those are what I am looking for. I may have to set up one of my aquariums to collect some special ones during the year. Should I use pond water in it so when I transfer the fish to the pond the water will be the same?

You could, but you can also just float them add the pond water slowly to get them used to it, then transfer them in.
Co - habitation makes some neat offspring lol

The thing is that if I buy them and just put them in the pond and they croak then I can't find them but if I let them live in an aquarium for awhile then I can make sure they live or if they don't take them back if it happens right away and get some others as a trade for the expired ones. Can fatten them up good that way too.

Aww got it, bought fishes............... Yep easier way to watch them. I would not worry about the water, just keep it clean, as if you don't know this, and when ready do the normal float. I mix mine with some pond water as I get them ready to toss into the big water.
