maybe you should give your wife a hardy thank you for not allowing you to move plants if it works .I would never have thought of that way and couldn't honestly figure it out from your pics and explanation ,but now seeing this it really does look good ,Lets just hope none of those stakes rot or break

Oh, they are going to rot and break, but since I plan to back-fill, I don't think it will be catastrophic when they do

I would get some metal rebar behind there this way when they rot or break it will not be such a big deal .They also have stakes made out of the pvc wood .I have had great luck with them on a side walk I built 6 years ago and they have not broken yet .They were not cheap about 12 dollar for 10 of them .but still not bad .I think also since they are smooth they were easier to pound in the clay soil here .

Yes if you are planning to backfill with dirt or more rocks you should be ok with using the wood stakes. But if you are going to backfill it anyway why did you go through all that trouble of driving those stakes in the ground and stapling the edging to them when you could have just used dirt and sloped it up on the sides. Might have been easier. But I think the look is going to be good when you get finished.

My goal is using a soft edge. When I built the current pond I covered the liner with large granite. It looks good, but it's also very big and with hard edges. I'm trying a different type of construction where I can fold the liner behind the edging, then fill in the void with soil and plants. I probably went over board with the stakes and all, but I wanted to be sure I was going to get the shape I wanted ;)

More progress! :)

I'm just about done with the pond/steam interior. Tonight I will be making careful measurements as it's officially time to buy the liner and underlayment. Four rolls of rock-on-a-roll arrived Monday. It should be a great holliday weekend for my water garden.

I think we will name the stream "Dog Paw Creek"

And lastly, the view from the top..

For good measure, here are two pictures of my fish!

More work over the holiday weekend. Liner is installed, so is all my rock-on-a-roll. I'm going to need a couple more rolls! Also, my 1850GPH pump is way not suited for this new setup, I am getting but a trickle. I'll be testing out a 3000GPH pump that my friend has, hopefully some time this week.
