Yer I have, it's a 1 inch intake at the top with a 2 inch outflow about 18inches lower it only fills to about 7inch barley covering my filter media, I have filter matting on top but that is out of the water, I'm just really busy with other things so time will have to wait but I will get it done.

Thank you ,some that understood my problem, I will put a u bend in the filter barrel with uplift, lifting my water level. The barrel is plenty large enough not for it to over flow and the outlet is larger than the inlet so cheers pal I'm on it.

Thanks bikepainter for sharing about your system. I'm in the process of building a 12x16x4 pond. It's into a side of a steep hill. My filter will be about 5 ft higher than the pump/ skimmer box. I'm hoping that my pump will also be strong enough. After going through the filters it will go down the waterfall. My water has already turned green one week after which I'm surprised at because there's nothing in the water ( nutrients) that should cause algae so soon. At least I thought. I'm thinking about using API algaefix before I add fish. The only thing in the pond is medium sized rock on the bottom and a few plants from my aquariums.
Please let us know how your fix turns out?

Hi
IMG_20230501_080225600.jpg
hi. good luck with your pond it sounds like a big job. I've re-done my plumbing now so the intake is still at the top it's fed to the bottom lifts up inside the tub then out via an uplift pipe and put.. it should never overflow ,but never say never eh. Yer, I took the name as it says what I do on the tin. Sorts thing. But I don't spray paint bikes I do acrylic pictures , unfortunately this image function on this site won't go deep enough into my photo album so I'm showing a Mustang I did on a upcycled chair I did. But I don't do the bikes anymore cos I used to pain high detail like every nut and bolt , if there's rust anywhere on the bike it would go on the painting. Ah, hold on. Just took a snapshot of my screensaver i did a long time ago I also did the front and the thruxton race track in-between them both. When I was on facebook a guy commented ,I bet you spent hours polishing that before taking a photo , don't believe it was a painting untill I showed him the finished picture. Happy days , eyes are not what they used to be.

Sounds as if you have a perfect landscape for a stunning waterfeature. Put a few pictures up I had to fight to get every inch higher than my pond for my waterfalls

I moved into a new house that had a green pond without any filtration . I added a pump 2000lts per hour it's only a small pond 8ft x8ftx x18 inch. I made a filter from a 50gal bucket with lid. The filter inlet is a 1inch pipe and the outlet to the pond waterfall is 2inch dia. My problem is the filter is higher than the pond and only half fills, shouldn't it be full of do I just need a more powerful pump.

UPDATE.
HI ALL, First thanks for all the advice I got of which I acted on. 3 /4 weeks down the line since then and my pond is now crystal clear that I can see tadpoles on the bottom of the pond. No longer a pea soup. I still only have the 2000lt pump, but te-,designed the filter , still feeds in at the top but it's released at the bottom of my 5o ltr drum filter, then it rides up through course media then through 2inch filter webbing stuff then through fine filter wool the top surface water disappears down the downlet pipe which is at top water level about 2 inch from the top of my filter and put it goes crystal clear.. chests lads.

As long as you have a larger outflow than the supply, your filter will not fill. You can add more media but then you risk the chance of it overflowing when the media gets clogged. The quilt batting in your filter will work well but it needs to be cleaned often!
