Until I "broke the siphon," my bog would drain completely, as well. So hopefully you've taken care of at least this part of the mystery!

I added "Y" connection where the pond tubing enters the bog and have some tubing going vertical from that. I was going to try drilling a little hole, but there apparently is too much pressure coming in from the pump, and water was [taking the path of least resistence] flowing upward and out instead of going into the bog. I'm getting ready to do a trouble-shooting thread on that issue, but it may be days before I get to it. I'll see if I have a picture.....

Thought about doing something like that but after 3 tries with the whole plumbing leaking thing I opted to do the least. I think i'll drill a hole below the water line when the bog is in use then, so when the pumps stop and the water going down to one point it'll break the siphoning. I hope the little hole would be enough?

It worked when I did it with the Skippy intake -- when I moved & re-plumbed it last year, I forgot to add the Y connection. Someone on here (Addy, maybe) suggested drilling the hole and it worked for that.

Take heart; I walked around my yard and was unable to find a dry spot! The greater Chicagoland deep tunnel is full! That's 2.3 BILLION gallons!

@Skydog so sorry to hear!!!

Good news. This afternoon after about 12 hours of water sitting in the bog, I only loose about half an inch. Which is a very god news. It means that I have a very little leak or just evaporation (on a hot day on gravel it could be that I lose that much water) the ground where I found wet ground is still pretty humid. I couldn't pin point where, if any, the leak is. What is the best way to look? If it's a leak it's just come out super slowly and very very small since I didn't see any hole.

I guess I'll have to accept that I have high evaporation (since I couldn't find a leak)

Big Lou,
Yea I'm afraid of that. I know the location or approximate location of the puncture since the wet spot is only there. I tried and tried to look at the liner (I dug out the gravel in that area) and searched high and low and still couldn't find the puncture. I'm hoping there is a trick to find a very small puncture like this. I looked at the back of the liner for water spot but since the ground is wet and hot day, the back of the liner has moisture cling to thm in several spots. I don't think and when I look around there, I fine no puncture still :(

If it's like a slow leak, is there anything to put in the water for it to find a way to close the leak itself?

I lose a lot of water every day, evaporation can be intense, hot sunny windy, plants sucking it up (the bog is packed now) When it is still just gravel I lose water (before plant growth, a lot of surface area.

i love your bog :) i think it's mostly evaporation since i actually lose about 0.5 inch yesterday and it was a very very hot day in the 95+ and high heat index. i dont know what that little wet spot is though. i think its a very tiny hole that water just seep through. i might try to use dye to see if it comes out.

Addy just gave me some [paraphrased] advice [problems with water lilies] when I finally asked, "do I even need to worry about it?" Maybe not.

If things seem stable for the moment and the fish aren't in immediate danger, it might be time to step back, take some deep, calming breaths, and forget about it for a little while [I know, better said than done....]. I have found that this approach sometimes [sometimes....] helps me re-focus. To re-focus on the issue and re-focus on the priority -- and when I come back into focus, I'll have a new & different outlook. At least I find that I'm less stressed out over whatever-it-was, which means I'm at least out of full-panic mode :nailbiting: and can think more clearly.

Though I have to say, Nepen, through it all you seem to have stayed on track with a good grasp on the situation, so maybe you can ignore my advice.....(y) Whatever...... Just hoping you get it all figured out soon!
