I don't know why the UV didn't work. It was bought brand new and it was suppose to be able to do double the capacity of my pond. Left it for a week and absolutely no change. But the tent was cheaper and worked in 3 days. I left the tent up all of last season. It came down around the end of fall and has been down ever since. So far, no need to put it back up. The pond has been clear ever since.

You probably had water rushing too quickly past the bulb so it had no effect. You need to slow down the water at the bulb so it has enough dwell time for it to zap the bad stuff.

It wasn't going too fast. My 400 gallon pond runs on a 100gph pump. That is slower that recommended and should have had plenty of time going through the UV light to do its thing. It doesn't matter now because I solved the problem easy with the cover and haven't had a problem since and I took the UV light back to the store after having it a week and it didn't work. Thanks for the troubleshooting though.
