OK- haven't read this whole thread but I backed off this forum a while back because another member made some harsh comments. I guess I'm too thin skinned. I'm back and if someone has an issue with a comment made, everybody has an opinion and we all know that they say about that.

Totally agree John, we should "work together for the common good", and for the love of our hobby. I love to pond, and whether I do it correctly or not, remains to be seen. The intent here should be to comfort the upset and stressed new member, letting him know that there are ways to improve the situation, albeit not all situations can be "fix", but we will do our best to help.

Amen, amen!

And save the "opinion-sharing" (being nice) for another post! Different opinions are wonderful -- I get so much information & insight by reading everyones thoughts. But please don't hi-jack a post and turn it into a BRAWL!

MY RECOMMENDATION: We add a DISCLAIMER statement to the Posting Information.....

TO NEW MEMBERS: "Waterbug is knowledgeable, and is a valuable member of our GPF Community. Please disregard his sarcasm, and don't take it personally. That's just the way he is -- annoying, but he adds 'spice' as well as information to our conversations!"
Mmathis said:
I repeat, NOT a personal attack on you, WB!
If you want to start threads...in a pond forum...to call me annoying I can't stop you. But thinking that starting a thread to insult people and then insist it isn't a personal attack is immature childish delusional stupidity.

Is it you think "personal attack" means you have to shoot someone? Are you unclear in the meaning?

All right that's it. What's with all this passive-aggressive Kumbaya stuff? Are we ponders or did I stumble into some guilt racked apologist knitting circle?
Yeah, you only lit the fire.

A newbie signed in to ask a question and WB asked him to go look it up. C'mon, was that really a good way to treat a newbie? If WB didn't want to answer him, WB had the right to remain silent, the most underused right known to mankind.
You mean like this post in the same thread?

Hi Timber,

There is some guidance here about what information is useful for assessing your pond which may help the members to help you better:

:)
Where's your outrage? Is it because I didn't say "welcome"? Because I didn't provide an actual link? My post is basically the exact same post. You're a piece of work. Transparent.
JohnHuff said:
WB deserved any "beatdown" that was given to him but there wasn't any beatdown.
So you're in charge of who deserves beatdowns here and who doesn't. You must be a joy to be around.

One guy let him have a piece of his mind
And what would be the name of this mystery person who lit this flame war...
JohnHuff said:
Let's face it. Neither your post or second post was particularly helpful...
Gee that looks like you. Talking about yourself in the third person kind of a cowardly move.
JohnHuff said:
but most of the other responses were backhanded compliments (mind included) which is par for the course whenever WB is concerned.
...and someone else...right John? I've read more than a few threads where I never posted and you had posted the same type of judgemental crap. Doesn't seem to take my involvement to entice your crap.

For the record, forums are not created for people to feel smart.
Yes they were. There's an entire industry devoted to it. It's a big business.

Gee Mommy...why should I take this as a personal attack?

I rarely use sarcasm. The posts I think you're referring to were not sarcasm. They're were direct, to the point, I believe 100% true, and as good or better advice than any other post. Just because you think it's sarcasm doesn't actually make it sarcasm. Just because you don't like a post doesn't make it sarcasm or bad info. It only reflects on you. That you feel free to belittle and criticize me reflects on you.

I always take criticism from self righteous people as a huge compliment. So thank you.

Oh come on man. Get off that high horse...

There is absoutely a distinct difference in writing amongst folk on this forum and any forum and, when recognizing this and pointing out impressions, my first reaction would not to be to say "stop judging me and belittling me".

Waterbug, your reaction to this actually reflects more on you more than Mmanthis and completely misses her main point.

It is our reactions to what should be judged.

Differences amongst authors is just a fact no different than talking to someone in person.

Oh man, many good laughs here and there are some family members I can tell you stories about and this thread brings it all back. In a good way... :cheerful:  :nananananana:

WB, whatever you do, do NOT volunteer for a suicide hotline. I can see it now:
Caller: I don't deserve to live, give me a reason why I shouldn't kill myself right now.
WB: Lot's of ideas. If you read any thread on why you shouldn't die you will find tons and tons of ideas.

:cheerful:  That's a perfect Waterbug.

Just thought a verb.... John, you made a funny..

You just did a " Waterbug ". :nananananana:

How would I react to this if it were directed to me? Viewed it all written with love. Good to have a sense of humor about your self.

I always viewed Waterbug as that smart, knowledgeable, wise, creative, sometimes a little too plain spoken old Uncle that can sometimes have a good sense of humor . Sincerely, Waterbug, I think you're a good guy. Eventhough I understand how new folk can be "put off" or little too sensitive by your approach, I still think you're alright. :0000000057:

Save your outrage for the real thing. Let's not quote my outrage out of context shall we? I only have limited amounts of outrage to give and I only expressed my "outrage" on your second statement:

First statement: "Lot's of ideas. If you read any thread on sick fish you will find tons and tons of ideas."
Second statement "Wow, 80% water change with no testing. Kind of like shooting gun without knowing which end the bullet comes out of."

Not. Particularly. Helpful.

Just my :twocents: "s worth, but when I have a problem I'll look it up online, in books, or wherever. THEN I may discuss the results of my search on a forum. Most of the poorly-informed folks who ask these questions have obviously done NO research, and do not INTEND to do any research! Once I realized this, I simply stopped replying to these queries. Hell, half of these people don't listen, anyways! :goodnight:
John
