I have never been able to keep hyacinth over the winter indoors. It does great for me outside but not so much inside (although I don't have grow lights) It's definitely worth a try though, the light just may be the trick. If you notice they start to wilt and die just make sure to get them out of the tank so they don't pollute the water.

And don't forget to let us know if it works :)
OK, Great Thank you! I just wanted to make sure they wouldn't hurt the fish, being indoors. They look good, and actually have some new growth after being in there two weeks. I am just having trouble with my PH being too high, and I didn't know if they would contribute to it.

sorry about that....either way though koi or goldfish are tolerant of a wide range of ph. The important thing is that it is stable and that you don't play around with it trying to adjust it. A reading of 7.6-7.8 is very good actually
Ok... Then I will not worry! I feel like an over protective mother, that I want everything ideal. On the strips to check it shows that is in the Akaline phase, and I was worried! Thank you for sharing your info!

One more quicky. Would you worry if the Nitrite is 3?

Clarify the Nitrite level, please. Is it 3.0, 0.3,or 0.03? What are you using to test your water?
I am using the Tetra 5-in-1 Easy Strips. And it is closest to the 3.0 coloring. I did do a partial water change today, about 10%. I also added another bag of Carbon/Ammonia rocks. I am thinking of taking a water sample to the Pond store tonight to have them check. I had used water from the 20,000 pond that they were in when I transferred them into the 300 gallon tank. But it is a new filter/media system. Maybe the tank needs to cycle? I have lost 2-4 babies in the last week, but was thinking that may be typical with the move. But, maybe it has to do with the ammonia in the tank? I have been sweeping the bottom every 2-3 days.

Test strips are notoriously inaccurate. Take a sample to the pond store and have them test for an accurate Nitrite reading. Actually, have them test all parameters. This will give you a baseline to work from. 3.0 mg/L Nitrite is too high, but lets wait until you get an accurate test result before suggesting any remedy.
The fry mortality could very well have been caused by the stress of relocation.

Thank you very much for responding! This is my first time to ever raise Fry. I am very excited and have lots of friends hoping to get a few from us in the spring! So I hope that I am doing things right! I will post an update after going to get the water tested tonight!!!
