can anybody tell me if fish follow any certain courting behaviour, as one of my 4" sarasa's is swimming around the pond and the other sarasa will not leave its side, it is persuing it everywhere and rubbing its body up against the other sarasa's side, just wondering if this is the start of something ?

That's the spawning ritual. That can go on for hours. Good luck, you may be spotting new additions to your pond in the coming weeks and months.

I have some iris in pots, some just planted in rocks, by winter the rock planted ones will be in pots, to protect from our freezing.

gona have a think about creating some hiding places that the big fish canot reach into, just to givethem somewhere to hide,

Mogsie I put in an old strawberry pot in my pond several years ago and the small fish like it, the big Koi can't get in there very well and there are several holes to escape. http://www.wmpot.co.uk/garden_pots/strawberry_pot.htm
