This varies by location. The frostline in my area (Vermont) is 54 inches (yes, you read that right FIFTY-FOUR INCHES). That's 4.5 feet.if your bog is higher than ground level (ALL of it) and you don't have a decent amount of soil on all sides (min of 2' with 3' being better) it might indeed freeze solid which might in turn mean the pipes will crack.
