Mucky, I understand. In school, especially since I studied sciences, I'm used to cm, cc, kg, m and stuff. However, in everyday life, I can see how ft and stuff can be useful. It's easy to think of someone as 6ft tall as 1 ft is easy to visualize, not the same as 182cm.
Or a gallon of stuff is easy to think about since a gallon of milk is always in my fridge. Or a mile since we drive 60mph.
But when I measure small distances, it's easy to think about something 2mm long, but I hate thinking about 3/8 of an inch. So I guess we are somewhat versatile too.
One thing always surprises me when I think about it is that Canada only has a population of 34M. When I was a kid I used to think we had the same population. When I got older, I knew Canada had less people, maybe 1/2 ours. It's staggering to think you guys only have 1/10th of our pop.
