I have a pitcher plant that I dug up here locally in PA. When I dug it up I took the dirt and grass/moss that was with it and threw it in a pot and put it in my pond. It's now on its third season and doing great.
I don't sink it to the bottom of my pond in the winter because it's a native plant so I figured it would winter fine at the same depth it was originally in.
