Can I add more that 12 inches of pea gravel to my bog filter?

I have some concern about using the milk crates collapsing
You want a nasty job try digging out collapse milk crates under 24" of gravel and not puncture your liner your saving a 500 to 1000 dollars just cost you hard

the sump pump does 3000 gallons an hour the bog does 6000 gallons an hour....Ok ...moving it around makes sense now..I will stick it in the gravel...Thanks for these ideas...
Shove a flexable garden hose down the clean out and let it whip around down there for a couple minutes stiring up the bottom . then turn on your pump and pull out the water

welcome....No, you can go deeper there are many of us here, myself included that have bogs with pea gravel much deeper than 12”.

Also, you are going to want to put underlay over the liner as well, and sandwich the liner, so it goes underlay, liner underlay then milk crates. You don’t want any edges from the milk crates tearing the liner with all that weight pushing down on it. The hardware cloth is unnecessary as long as your rock size graduates up, I used 8-12” rock over the aqua blocks, then 2”, then about 18-24” of 3/4” pea gravel in my wetland filter.
I did all that. Once I put the gravel in I got a leak. Losing inch a day.. its not evaporation. It's coming out if the bottom drain I have under liner. Lost on how to find the leak.. just tge thought of tearing it apart frustrates me.

Why did you put a bottom drain in the bottom of your wetland filter? It is unnecessary a centipede and snorkel accomplishes the same thing without the penetration through the liner.

If you didn’t leave plenty of slack around it the process of adding water matrix blocks, and rock/gravel probably pulled the liner tight.

there are some water proof caulking s that can be applied to a wet surface. no idea if there's one that's fish friendly , but the best way is to let the water leak until it stops. then you'll know for sure what it is. if your sure that's it its drain it down and start over . more than likely the rubber got twisted from tightening too much. but once the repair is done fill it a foot and wait a couple days to see it it is stopped

Good luck
