Boycotting gas on April 15, 2011?

If you have a smartphone or a laptop that you can use on the go you can check gas prices on gasbuddy.com to find the cheapest, did this on vacation and really save us some $$$$$. Also gave the wife something to do when we were getting close to needing to fill up she would get on there and scout out the cheap places. Some places varied by as much as 25 cents per gallon from one exit to another.

I have an iPod touch and a netbook but I would have to invest in some kind of carrier to get wifi or find free wifi on the road while driving and I don't know how much service costs for that and if it would cancel out my gas savings

You can go to their website type in your start and ending location type of vehicle and it will automatically calculate where you should stop based on MPG and then find the cheapest around that area. Now this information will be several hours old by the time you get to where you need to fill up but still an option. Give it a try.

If you really want to keep track of your MPG per vehicle you could use fuelly.com. Just started using it two weeks ago. I am always trying to squeeze out every MPG that I can get from my truck seeing how it only gets 16 MPG. Ever heard of Hypermiling (Hypermiling is the act of driving using techniques that maximize fuel economy).

If you really want to hypermiling, the prius tells you, as you drive what mileage you are getting, two different displays, if you really want the best you coast to stop lights, don't take off hard from a dead stop, use the brakes minimally. The prius with its displays have changed my driving habits.

My honeys corvette also tells him how he is doing, not as nice of a display, but it does say what the current mpg is running.

What do you think about fuel cell technology? It is my understanding that the only byproduct is water. I know we are a long way from having an inexpensive cell for production. I also wonder what the lifetime and recycle timelines and effects are.

For Fuel Cell Technology, the vehicle have one scuba tank of Oxy one tank of Hydro. When you drive, Oxy mixed with Hydro to create water and release energy, this energy is used to drive the vehicle.H2+O= H2O+energy
Yes, it is very clean to drive as it only emit water steam. However, to get hydro and oxy, they have to split H2 and O from pure water aka H2O: H20+energy=H2+O. Where do we get the the energy for this process? Coal or gas burning! There is no free lunch. There is no free energy or free pollution. we just move the smoke from urban's exhaust pipe to rural coal plant exhaust tower. Also another draw back of fuel cell is that it take ALOT more energy to spit H2 and O from H2O than the amount they yield when merged back, thus we waste a lot of energy mean more green house gas.
IMO, plug in vehicle will be the future. Here electricity convert into chemical power when charged then when you drive stored chemical power converted back into electricity to drive motor. little energy wasted. Hopefully with all the advance in Lithium battery, one day it become reality and economical. Like CEO of GM respond when asked about the VOLTS-GM hybrid plugin flagship:" It ready, we can mass production it today, just give us a good battery pack"
In the mean time, I stick to my beat up Honda Civic for commute!

My honey had a $300 ford escort station wagon, it ran great. We called it our throw away car, if ever really broke down toss it. He used it to commute the 45 miles every day. Well one day it died, he coasted into shell gas station, they had a certified repair station. So he told them it most likely was a timing issue. Well they call the next day..........fixed.........said it was the coil, we went to pick it up, the racket it was making was horrible, sounded like timing.........so we had to leave it. They call us two days later tell us the crank shaft froze, engine needs replaced.........pay us 1k we will do for you.

The battle started.....Now two weeks later after some threats of court, the manager tells us a mechanic broke a screw driver as he was setting the timing, it fell into the cylinder and broke the piston, killed it. They fixed that, then cracked the head not tightening the bolts correctly................ well long story short, they bought the car.

So now now looking for a replacement commuter, he doesn't want to run the miles up on my baby, I tell him it is just a car, but he doesn't like to beat up our good cars with the commute. I told him well drive your corvette then...................lmao

Our Corvette is our daily driver. Why not drive a nice car?
Not driving it is like having nice dishes and silverware that you only bring out on special occasions. I used to think that way. As I got older, I realized that someone else is going to enjoy them if I don't.

90 miles a day, he would rather not, somewhere around 45 miles one way, he also has a 600 hp z28 that sits in the garage for when he feels like driving it. It is his decision lol.
