I have to say, the bog has been a definite success! It's been regularly over 100F here and the pond gets a LOT of sun. But since adding the bog, the hair algae levels are way down, with just a bit of cleanup every couple weeks. Before the bog, the algae needed to be cleared out every 3-4 days and there was a LOT of it. Part is definitely due to the bog, and also due to the floating plants growing fast. Anyways, here's what it looks like now:

The speed that plants seem to grow at in a bog is kind of awe inspiring.

I have done 4 huge yanks of plants so far to try and keep it under control and need to do another. Ow get overflowing. The water can overflow the entire bog wall and the waterfall, but that area can get plant clogged which leads to overflow over other areas.

This is so awesome. Not gonna lie, sort of jealous of how well your plants are doing. I thought it was the New Mexico heat inhibiting my plants' growth but sounds like you're just as hot. Hmmmm

I actually just put up a big 20x20x29 ft. triangle shade to help with the heat directly on the pond. The pond still gets 5-6 hours of direct sunlight, but is shaded from about 4pm onwards. It's only been up for a couple days, but I'm hoping it will keep the pond cooler and provide some relief for some of the plants around the pond that were looking a bit sad.

We've already had a few 110F and higher days here, and still have August to get through which is typically the hottest time of the year. Fingers crossed that the shade helps out.
