Bog design considerations

I thought if something froze then it did not matter how much colder it got it was still frozen, guess this is not the case with plants.
Good to know when I build the new setup the bog will not be above grade.

Mine freeze solid, water always stays in the bog, it becomes a ice cube, at least at the surface and xx down. If I let the bog go dry over winter, the plants would die.
