Hey, Pond Pals! I am getting closer to actually working on the backyard pond. I am still thinking through some of the details. I am going to have a bog filter. Rather than having an upright pipe to put a hose in and blast out gunk into the gravel, I was wondering about a different idea.
What if I put a piece of culvert pipe into the bog at the lowest end? I could stand it upright and have some cut-outs at the bottom edge to allow stuff to flow in. I could keep it covered with a lid and disguise with rock. Maybe every couple of years, I could turn off the pump and drop a submersible pump down to the bottom of this pipe. Then I could suck out any accumulated muck from the very bottom.
Here is a little drawing.
Is this pointless? Or a good idea?

to answer that question we need info. how many gph are you pushing with the pump, how big a bog are you making. what are you using for a centipede

Ok thank you, I will send some pics if that ok. I don’t have the volume yet as I have not filled it up yet, but pump in variable 20,000 etc and was looking at a manufactured set up as per pic.

I cut 12mm slots in my pipe, 150mm twinwall. I used a router and cut two slots , roughly 1 - 3 and 9 -12 if on a clock, with the slots 60ish mm apart.

I can't tell if it will work long term as I've just built the pond, but looking at the expensive stuff from certain providers, it's quite similar

If you are going to make jokes, the facts still have be right 😂

Still working too much, but the pond is nearly completed, but always a bit more to be done
